Learning two guitar chords Em and Am

We are going to learn, our first two guitar chords: E minor and A minor. We will start out with the E minor chord. It consists of two fingers. And the two fingers that we are going to use is the second and third finger. We’re going to place that second finger, right on the fifth string. And the fifth string is counting from the bottom: one, two, three, four, five. So, we go to the fifth string, second fret. And you want to place that finger right directly behind the second fret. Then, we’re going to take the third finger, and place it on the fourth strings, so we count up four: one, two, three, four, and place it right behind the second fret on the fourth string. Now, we got to curve our hand around enough, so those fingers come straight in, ninety degrees. And what we’re going to do is we’re going to strum, with a downward stroke of a pick, right over the sound hole. And there is your E minor, it’s a darker sound. So again, our second finger, goes on the fifth string, second fret, and on the third finger goes on the fourth string, second fret. The next chord we’re going to learn is the A minor. That will use three fingers: one, two and three. We’re going to take the first finger and place it on the second string: one, two, behind the first fret. Then, we’re going to take the second finger, and bring it up to the fourth string, behind the second fret: one, two, three, four. And this is the second fret, so second finger, fourth string, second fret. And then, we’re going to add the third finger to the third string: one, two, three, right behind the second fret. And we’re going to hook that finger right around, and then we’re going to play five strings: one through five. And again, it’s a darker sounding chord. And that’s the A minor. Now, what you’re going to do is practice switching that. We’re going to take the E minor, and we’re going to strum it twice. And then, we’re going go to the A minor, strum it twice. And we’re going to practice that back and forth. Two strums a piece, so E minor: one, two; A minor: one, two. And we’re going to strum that over the sound hole, right over here. So, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two. It will take a little time and practice, but be patient and don’t get discouraged.
